I painted this portrait of Inge Bannemann on a sheet of copper. I am fascinated by the many ways in which this metal can be altered and textured through oxidation and patination. The dimensionality of the altered surface gives a sense of the passage of time.
My paintings give voice to those who had theirs cruelly taken away, ensuring they are never just statistics, but forever represented as the vibrant lives they should have lived. It's a sobering yet necessary act of respect, remembrance and learning - channeling the tragedy into something that can speak powerfully across generations about defending human dignity.
This original work of art not only honors the past, but also serves as a beacon of hope for future generations. Wouldn’t Inge’s portrait be a wonderful addition to your art collection?
