Commissioning a painting is a collaborative journey into creating a visual story that will honor the subject of the painting and will exist as a thread that connects generations to come.”

Step 1 – Conversation

The process starts with a conversation.

Whose story are we telling? What photos exist and what is known about them? Are there family tales or heirlooms that can be incorporated into the painting? How big should the painting be and how much of the subject do you want to include?

Step 2 – Sketches

After selecting the photo and discussing the context of the painting, two sketches will be done depicting ideas for the painting’s composition. Once a sketch is selected and approved I will begin work on the final painting.

Step 3 – Painting

Beyond simply representing the subject's likeness, the painting weaves a tapestry that reveals the subject's essence; telling the singular story of their imprint on this world.

The many-layered process of applying oil paint to the prepared panel creates a depth that captures nuanced subtleties within the subject. Every brushstroke is executed with intention, ensuring that the subject’s portrayal reveals their unique presence in the eyes of viewers, and is a lasting platform from which they are remembered by future generations.
